My Loteria card art for \u2018El Arbol\u2019 is a finalist for\u00a0Best Product Illustration. I\u2019m elated not just because Loteria is my creator-owned property and ongoing ship of dreams, but because\u00a0\u2018El Arbol\u2019\u00a0is a tribute to my friend, the great Jay Lake<\/a>. Even though his\u00a0novels and stories would always\u00a0endure, I asked him before his passing if he wanted to live on as a tree of life. He said \u2018let\u2019s do it\u2019\u00a0and this drawn art was the final result. This one\u2019s\u00a0for you, Jay.<\/p>\n Congratulations to\u00a0all of this year\u2019s Chesley Award finalists<\/a>. These are the awards given by the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA)<\/a> and wow, it\u2019s a WORLD-CLASS ballot, chockful of stunning work. In the Best Cover Illustration \/ Paperback\u00a0category, my art for Jack Finney\u2019s classic INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is a finalist as well. Cherlynne Li was my art director on this 60th anniversary cover for Simon & Schuster \/ Touchstone. Last year, I shared\u00a0my thoughts that led to this\u00a0cover art.<\/a>\u00a0Thank you to Cherlynne for allowing\u00a0me the freedom to visually re-present one of science fiction\u2019s classic stories\u00a0in a fresh way that hasn\u2019t been done before. (And thank you to Joe Monti, with whom this job would not have happened otherwise.)<\/p>\n
