SKETCHES OF FRANK GEHRY

This week, I stumbled upon a 2006 documentary called SKETCHES OF FRANK GEHRY, directed by Sydney Pollack. I’ve watched this DVD five times this week and it’s one of the most inspiring documentaries I’ve ever seen. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who aspires to be an artist (and not just the kind that draw and paint). Gehry describes crossroads in his creative life where I knew all too well the exact experience he was describing. If you’re seriously pursuing a creative path, I suspect you may as well. Shoutout to Ted Chiang — Ted, you remember that nice, meandering conversation we had in the Newark Airport this month….especially in light of that talk, I would love to hear what you think of this film. (Check out the trailer here.)

  1. Hi John,
I was really intrigued by your description of the film that I just had to see it. Well, lo and behold, we have the Dvd in the library’s catalog! It’s one that I’ll definitely be putting on hold for myself at Central Library.
